One thing you can be sure of when you visit Sturgis is you will see plenty of top-of-the-line custom made bikes. Some of the best are at the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building on Lazelle Street. There are 71 bikes entered this year from 17 different countries, all hoping to come away with the title of the best in the world.
Robin Bradley says, “This is the world finals. This is the event everybody everywhere else in the world wants to win through, to be able to compete at. Internationally, there are 16, 17 events, and to get here, to have the chance to compete against the finest custom bikes in America, that’s what this program is all about. It’s principally about bragging rights and prestige, but they don’t g away empty handed. They win a $10,000 value championship ring, which has been hand cast here in the Black Hills.”
Bradley says there is also about $15,000 in prize money on the line. The bikes were judged Tuesday and the champions will be crowned at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
