The brainchild of former Harley-Davidson Emirates manager turned Dubai dealer Marcel Bode, Dubai Bike Week is the principal Harley-Davidson and custom event, indeed the largest motorcycle event of any kind in the Middle East.

Co-staged with the Gulf Bike Expo, this year saw the event become a World Championship of Custom Bike Building affiliate for the first time.

Some 60 or so bikes, a mixture of ex-patriot and ‘local’ entries, competed in six classes with the Freestyle, Best In Show, and affiliate event ‘Sturgis’ prize being taken by Mario Kyprianides of Chopper Kultcha in Abu Dhabi.

Swiss performance image1This was Ruedi Steck’s 11th annual ‘Swiss Performance’, and co-staging it at Switzerland’s annual four-day Swiss-Moto exhibition takes the custom message to a record total show attendance of 69,000 visitors.

The Swiss market remains relatively small, but it is remarkable for the popularity of motorcycles in general on a per-head of population basis, and is one where Harley-Davidson can proudly point to number one status in market share terms, with a 9 percent growth in 2010 (over 2009) giving them 21 percent of the 650+cc market in Switzerland, and putting them ahead of BMW and Honda.

Shwan Page rolled Brooklyn’s Finest into the 2011 Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show located in Washington, DC. JR Customs painted the 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa and the shiny metal work was completed by 2 Wheel Customs. This was one of the crowd favorites… Jay Z is popular.

Whereas normal technical training requires employees to be out of the shop, the Powersports University online facility has been created to enable staff to learn without missing work. PowersportsU.com will offer brand-specific, online, interactive training to more than 10,000 dealers and 1,000 manufacturer and distributor sales representatives in the motorsports industry.
