STAGED at ‘Swiss Moto’, which attracts some 70,000 visitors annually, ‘Swiss Performance’ will again be a World Championship affiliate event in February 2011, offering a 5,000 Euro bike freight prize to the ‘Best in Show’ winner to go forward to compete at next summer’s 8th annual Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building. In a market where learning to ride a motorcycle and care for two-wheel road users is a compulsory aspect of the car driver education and licensing, Switzerland may be one of Europe’s smaller markets, but it has one of the highest motorcycle ownerships on a per-head-of-population basis, and is one where Harley-Davidson is the number one selling brand of motorcycle, both within the 651+cc class, and in total terms.

Always respected for quality craftsmanship and widespread custombike enthusiasm (despite some of the toughest road-legal regulations in the world), this year saw Mayhem Kustomz and Speed Dept. win the Sturgis prize for ‘Energicer’, which went on to scoop 10th place in the 2010 World Championship – one of six European bikes in the Freestyle Class top ten this year.
